Another from my nighttime excursion into Bruges with a tripod. This is the main square with the famous Belfort off to the right of shot, records show it has been used as a market place since 958AD. The main building here is the Provincial Court. The statue on the left is of Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck, a butcher and a weaver respectively, who are credited with leading the Bruges Matins of 1302, a violent uprising against Philip the Fair. They are respected in Belgium as patriotic heroes who fought to maintain a Flemish identity.
