Vilnius Cathedral – Gediminas Avenue – Vilnius, Lithuania.
Dead center of main street under late-night rain here, looking east, you will find the "heart" of Vilnius, Cathedral Square, where the glistening white structures of Vilnius Cathedral and its tower peek through. Interesting to note that the main street, now in its present name of Gediminas Street has changed its name several times according to occupation. Initially known as St. George Avenue in 1836, it changed its name to Mickiewicz Street when Vilnius was under Polish rule (1922–1939), Adolf Hitler Street during the Nazi Germany occupation, Stalin Avenue (1940) then later renamed Lenin Avenue during the Soviet occupation. The avenue now carries its present name from 1939 to 1940 and since 1989.
